One food service menu printed on cream-coloured cardstock. The horizontal card has a vertical centre fold which has become detached. The text is machine printed in silver ink in a fancy script in upper and lower case font, the top centre reading "British Columbia" underlined with a bow in the centre, and under this, "Esquimalt & Nanaimo Ry. Co., S.S. "Joan"". In the centre is a photograph of the B.C. Legislative Buildings in Victoria. The photograph is bordered with a string of floral-like garland, and under this, "Legislative Excursion, Tuesday Aug 28th, 1900." James Dunsmuir's handwritten signature with others on the excursion are on the inside and outside of the menu. There is a blue coloured border (5 cm. wide) of repeating small circles and vertical lines. In the left top corner is a black outlined square with "Menu" printed in the centre with two long stems with acanthus leaf-like leaves at the ends. Centred in the mid-section of the card on both sides is a listing of the types of food to be served.Narrative
