One Canadian Government Passport. The cover is dark blue fabric glued and stretched onto heavy card stock. The back is plain and the front has a gold outline of the Canadian Coat of Arms consisting of two lions standing on hind legs with a shield in between them. "PASSPORT" is printed above it, and "CANADA" in upper case letters is machine printed below it. Inside is a foldout with a woman's photograph, her signature, "Florence Dunsmuir". Her maiden name of Swindon, date of birth of July 24, 1886 in London, England and full physical description is given. The names and ages of her children is also given: "James 8 years; Laura Marion 5 years; Muriel Byrd 3 years". Stamped in ink on the back is "The Department of Internal Affairs Canada Aug 9, 1921 Travelling to the United Kingdom".Narrative
Mrs. Robert William Dunsmuir (nee Florence Swinden) married the eldest son of James and Laura Dunsmuir in a civil ceremony in Buenos Aires, Argentine, April 19th, 1915 and again in a Christian ceremony Valparaiso, Chile, July 23, 1920. The Christian ceremony was said to have come about because Mrs. Laura Dunsmuir desired it. She was Robert William Dunsmuir's second wife.History of Use
This passport was issued to Mrs. Robert William Dunsmuir (nee Florence Swinden) on August 9, 1921. She owned it until her death in 1969. It was then inherited by her son, Robin James Dunsmuir and then, by his wife, Kathleen Dunderdale Hall Dunsmuir. The passport was donated to Craigdarroch Castle by her Estate in 1992.Date
