Description

One hand-illuminated book, the front and back hard-covers of black leather impressed with repeating diamond shapes and bordered with two gilded lines of unequal thickness, the 58 pages comprised of photographs, and hand-written Biblical scripture and quotations from Shakespeare, Tennyson, Wordsworth, etc. Many of the pages feature elaborate hand-coloured letters and designs.

This journal was created by or for Barry George in 1876 to mark death of his wife in that year.

History of Use

This book was inherited by the donor, Percy George, who gave it to The Castle Society in about 1980.
