Description

A hand-written letter to John Cowper Bryden from John Trutch of the Esquimalt & Nanaimo Railway Co. Land Department dated August 13, 1891 referring to conveyance documents for several building lots that Mr. Bryden purchased at Newcastle town site.

Narrative

At the time that Mr. Bryden purchased these building lots, he was Manager of the Wellington Collieries, north of Nanaimo. The Newcastle townsite is a district of Nanaimo, BC. north of the Millstone River.

History of Use

This document was acquired by The Castle Society from descendants of John Cowper Bryden and Elizabeth Hamilton Bryden (nee Dunsmuir). The family stored this with other documents in Nanaimo, Victoria, Royston, and Courtney, Vancouver Island.
