Description
Printed ticket on a single sheet of cardstock with textured edges. Centre top features two crossed, illuminated flags. Handwritten on the top proper right is 'Mr. Bingham.' This ticket is to a military ball in honour of the Prince of Wales' visit to Vancouver, Sept 22 1919.
Narrative
The ‘Soldier Prince”, as he was sometimes affectionately called, was nearing the end of a cross-Canada trip using a special Royal Train provided by the CPR. As each stop across the country, the Prince visited military hospitals operated by the Canadian federal government’s Department of Soldiers Civil re-establishment (DSCR). On September 25, three days after the Vancouver military ball, the Prince visited Craigdarroch and officially opened the DSCR’s ‘Craigdarroch Military Hospital’.
History of Use
This ticket was used at the "Arena" in Vancouver on September 22, 1919. Its subsequent history of use is unknown. It was purchased by The Castle Society in 2013.
