Description
a. A wooden frame stained dark brown with a relief scroll all around the inside edge of the frame. b. A sepia-toned photograph of a young boy, James Audain, about 3 years old sitting in a large plain wooden arm chair; light-coloured, short, straight hair; light coloured eyes turned slightly to his right; left arm leaning on the arm with his hand resting on his cheek; his left hand is holding the upright of the chair below his left arm; his left leg is tucked under the right leg that is hanging straight; wearing white long sleeved ruffled collar and cuffs; rolled hemmed white shorts; white socks; black slip on shoes with one large buckle on each.
Narrative
This photograph depicts James Guy Payne Audain (1903-1970), the first grandson of James and Laura Dunsmuir. James was born July 8th, 1903 in Bournemouth, Hampshire, England. He was the only son of Sarah Byrd Dunsmuir and Guy Mortimer Audain. This object is depicted in a historic photograph of the Hatley Castle Library - BC Archives D-03025. History of Use
This framed photograph was used by Laura Miller Dunsmuir at Hatley Park until her death in 1937. It was then used by James Guy Payne Audain in Victoria, BC until it was donated to Craigdarroch Castle sometime before 1983.
