Narrative
James Guy Payne Audain (1903-1970) was a great grandson of Robert Dunsmuir and Joan Olive Dunsmuir. Later in life, he recalled visiting his great grandmother at Craigdarroch. He was an early President of the Society for The Preservation and Maintenance of Craigdarroch Castle.

These images depict an important Dunsmuir family member and an early advocate for conserving Craigdarroch. They were collected for this reason.
History of Use
These photographs were probably taken in December, 1903. They were used by the subject's parents, Sarah Byrd Dunsmuir and Major Guy Mortimer Audain, in England, and then brought to Canada sometime before 1907. They were then used by the Audains at the house named Burleith on Victoria's Gorge Waterway, and later at Ellora, the Audain's house on Foul Bay Road in Victoria. After his parent's death, James Audain used these photographs in Victoria at his King George Terrace house on Foul Bay in the Municipality of Oak Bay, BC. The pictures were next inherited by his son who donated them to Craigdarroch in 2005.
