Description
A sepia-toned interior photograph of the drawing room at Craigdarroch, to the left side a Corinthian column, on the floor rows of wooden benches facing a free-standing chalkboard which obscures the east fireplace, the ceiling and friezes ornamented in painted designs, a radiator at each side of the fireplace, above the radiator at left a calendar sponsored by Manufacturer's Life, the ceiling fixture's shade a half-round globe.
Narrative
This 1935 photograph was takena few months months before The Victoria School Board, owners of Craigdarroch, painted over the Dunsmuir-era ceiling and wall decorations. The Castle's tenant was Victoria College when this photograph was taken. 

The artist responsible for the ceiling and frieze decoration is Edmund Spillman (1838-1924), who founded Spillman & Company in Vancouver, B.C. in 1888.  See the related publication for information on Mr. Spillman.
History of Use
This photograph taken by the donor in the spring of 1935 when she was attending Victoria College. She kept it with her in Victoria until donating it to Craigdarroch in 1986.
