Biography

Margaret Joan Harvey (1871-1952) was born and raised in Nanaimo. Her mother was Agnes Crooks Harvey, the second daughter of Robert and Joan Olive Dunsmuir. Her father was Nanaimo shopkeeper James Harvey. In 1896, she married Lt. Berkeley Holme-Sumner (RN) at Victoria’s Christchurch Cathedral. She never returned to British Columbia after her marriage. Mrs. Holme-Sumner was also known as “Madge” and “Mousie”.
